My Experience with e-Comm

Overall when I first entered e-Comm I wasn't very interested in the program. I was originally going to do animation and graphic design and switched to video last minute. The first projects we did took no time to complete compared to the hours that I put in now to just make a shot look a tiny bit better. The friends I have created over the years have been fantastic and without e-Comm I probably wouldn’t be friends with them today. In sophomore year filming a project was easy and all that we did for editing was just put the clips together and call it good. Now with all the VFX and editing, filming is so quick compared to the editing process. The connections that i've made with these projects has been great too, even if there is someone I may not like, I keep things professional. Overall my experience with e-Comm was a great one.

Film Reel

The Reel

Before starting the reel I had to think about how I wanted to show myself. I knew I wanted to display myself as an editor, as I have always excelled and enjoyed editing. I had already created a professional email called 'Ryan Moore Films' and decided to brand myself that way. Most of my works from Junior year had a lot of good shots so I decided to only include films that were from Junior year and beyond. Before editing the clips together I needed music that would tie everything together, after some browsing I found something that I enjoyed and slowly put the reel together, piece by piece. It ending up representing myself well. I remember after finishing it, I watched the film and it made me smile and was enjoyable to watch.

Pros & Cons

I really think the 'music sync' was well done and is what I aimed for because those small beats really can make someone enjoy the film. The shots I used were really well framed and all in focus. The clips fit the music and the variety of films and clips showed my diversity.

On the other hand, I do wish some of the shots had better depth to them, they felt very flat at times. Some other shots were very grainy and the ISO could've been turned down.

Looking Forward

After making this film reel I discovered some of my real strengths in VFX. I hope for the future that my Visual effect skills will improve greatly, while not forgetting my current skills in general editing.

Conclusion

Overall it was a success and I very much enjoyed creating the film reel. The shots were good, the editing was good. I hope to go further with my editing skills and Ryan Moore Films and become more of a successful artist.

Commercial Blog

Project

The decision was to do the Wii. The Wii console was a staple of many people's younger life so if we could hit a place that made people think back it would be great. We originally had the concept of having the commercial be similar to the 2009 Wii commercials. The overall idea of the commercial was to show to the viewer that the Wii can 'transport' or rather immersed you into the game. I was assigned to do the storyboards and I decided to do them digitally for convenience. Andrew, the director, found one of our actors while I found the second. We originally planned to do a bigger group of friends but ended up sticking with two due to Covid-19. The group found the days that everybody should be available for the whole day, we needed all the time we could get.

Filming went quite smoothly on the first day, all we had to film was the tennis scene. Secondly, we had a plan to go to Andrew's house to film the rest of the film. We believed we gave enough time for everything but eventually had to cut short.

An Editors Role

As an editor I took the SD card and imported it into my computer, I began to organize the clips based on what was usable. Andrew edited the lightsaber scenes and I got the audio. Lining up the audio with the lightsaber hits made the experience engaging and interesting to watch. The group still communicated and we sent updates of our progress so everyone knew what was happening.

Difficulties

The commercial didn't really feel like a commercial, I felt like a showoff of effects. Also as mentioned before we had to rush some scenes which was a bummer. Next time we will try to add more time for us to film.

Our Best

Our lightsaber scene worked out well, the scene in my opinion lasted quite too long but looked great. Our actors had some personal issues and couldn't film on days we already planned on doing but we adapted and fixed it. I learned that my group was great at looking at problems and fixing them on a whim making sure that it's fixed properly and efficiently.

Conclusion

This commercial was a success. I believed that it turned out well and while there were some issues I think we cleared them out quite well. The cinematography was well done, editing was good, art direction worked, even with covid, all around a good experience.

2020 Film Reel

Story

The basic view I wanted people to get from my Film Reel is that I do comical yet interesting films. Most of my films I create are for the laugh, but I enjoy going into depth with some of my work. Most of the films I have created are also very different in story and structure, editing them together made them connect more as films.

As an Editor

The film reel has good transitions and a good pace to it. It constantly keeps you engaged for the entire duration of the film. The clips line up with the music very well and swap over to different clips with ease. In other parts I think the camera is quite good in most shots, same with lighting. Sound was a bit of an issue because we had music in the other videos. This caused the music to play while the actors were talking and made it weird to hear two types of music played at the same time.

Pros and Cons

The reel did what it was intended to. It showed who I was as an editor and shows my work so far with an engaging and comedic tone. When looking back onto the reel though, I did have some issues with my work. The sound in some of the clips I used with dialogue used music which overlapped with the music in the reel. This caused some viewers to disconnect from the reel.

The Future

One thing I would like to do in the future is create more films that can support the feel I am trying to accomplish in this reel.  With this I can have a stronger and more engaging reel with more content to make potential clients be interested in my work.

AJR 100 Bad Days | Review

Story

The story seems very weird and seems to have a hidden meaning. But I think the video is trying to look like some sort of fever dream, or that sort of aesthetic. It gives you an uncomfortable visual aspect too. It gives a lot of edited scenes of people missing parts of their body by using a green screen. It also shows repeated scenery and edits. It was overall eye catching and enjoyable.

Knowledge

The video is mostly consisted of high edits using green screens and special effects. I think this good good eye catching deal is what I want to go for in my video, at least as the editor of the team. I do like also the serious feel to it which is what we will be applying to our music video. This can be implemented by using the dark scenes when the party goes wrong.

Quality

The creator of this video did a great job with the video, and it's hard to find flaws with the product. I enjoyed the edits and scenery they presented and the lip sync was pretty good. I think some improvements could be an easier to follow story, if there even was one to begin with. The music video just sort of followed the lyrics in a loose way, it made it a bit hard to understand. But that made it seemed like they were missing or broken which the song is about bad days, so maybe that was a point to it.

Conclusion

The music video is a great product and I think that AJR did a great job creating it. It was a bit hard to follow story but I sort of think that was the point. The actors were mostly broken and looked dismembered which came from good editing. This gave the feel of the people being broken which worked well with them talking about bad days and bad events. The lip sync was good and the look of it was good too, it sort of made me think of a fever dream. So it was a good video, and I think our music video will be good too.

Short Film

Process

The creation of a short film is indeed a process. It takes a lot of time to get it right. Connor who was the director came up with the idea of the short film. We expanded upon the idea and tried different things in the script but Connor had the final say in the script. We used Celtx to create the script and printed out scripts for our future actors. After that everyone agreed on a certain production role (Editor, Art Director, Director, and DP) I was the editor of the project. We all worked on story boards to get them finished and Connor worked on production schedule and cast list once we got actors. When we got actors and the days to film came up there was not many problems. Some actors had to leave early so we did some time crunches but overall filming was smooth and as we expected.

Being an Editor

As an editor I was responsible for editing the film and getting it finished on time. I used Adobe Premiere to edit and a bit of Adobe after effects for some effects. Editing was very straight forward, get the clips, put them together, clean it up, effects. That was the process for the entire film. I did learn how to do some better effects for premiere.

Being Professional

The team I worked with did a great job overall. We did a great job getting the camera set up and filming on time. We did talk through a lot of the problems and figure out when and where we were going to film. I stood up when stuff was not getting done to get things into check. I talked with the actors to tell them how to act in a scene. After all we got the project in on time.

The Experience

The overall experience was positive. If I were to do something different I would give us more time with filming so the camera setting would be checked more often so the film would look better. Other than that it was great and I would do everything else the same. I think that finding actors before the film would also be great so we don't have unreliable actors when it comes to finding dates. But at the end of the day I think the film turned out great and cant wait to work on another project.

My Semester in Entertainment

Projects

I worked on many projects over the last semester. This includes my films titled: "Simply Complex", "lets switch things up", "Bruh Moment", and recently "Franklin's Cake" (All films at end of blog). Each project had a different time limit, but to sum it up, Simply Complex and lets switch things up both took around 2 weeks to create. Bruh Moment was a part of the 24 hour film fest, so the film was made in less than 24 hours. Franklin's cake was one that took a bit and we had around 3-4 weeks to create the film. Many of the problems we faced while making each film seems to be reoccurring. Problems we had were: camera focus, camera white balance, lack of close ups, and poor acting with actors. Based off these issues, I can focus more on these problems on future projects, and maybe get to learn the camera a bit more. Feedback for my films was also very parallel with the problems, white balance off, poor acting, focus the camera, etc. Later into the year the films writing got a lot better and the overall enjoyability with those films also increased too. But I think that overall the films I helped create were great films that, while may not be perfect, are very enjoyable to watch and share.

Time Management

Time management is a bit "wonky" for an editor. During the films, I help during pre-production but production I don't have much to do. I try to show up to filming to try and help with tips and ideas for the film but after everything is film its a grind. I spend a lot of time out of class editing the film and making it look better. Due to this, I never got finished early because I was always working pretty much until the due date on a film but during production I try to help as much as I can. I also always try to improve my skills outside of class with personal projects on my youtube channel, its overall meant for fun but I think I gain more experience on editing too.

 Strengths

My Strengths as a video student I believe are, lack of better terms, strong. I didn't do much client work but I did do personal projects, as previously stated. I feel like I have a great editing talent, that can still improve and become better. But in order to make it become better and the best, I need to work on editing more and learn premiere and all it has to offer.

What to Learn

What to improve about my films. Overall I think all the films I worked on were quite a success. But there will always be something to improve about the films.  I think camera work could be enhanced, greatly. What I mean is more of unique camera shots, white balancing the camera, and lighting. But there are other improvements other than the camera. My editing skill could be enhanced. Meaning I could learn how to make better effects and how to be more efficient with my work. But my skills, camera work, writing, and pretty much everything has improved greatly since the beginning of the semester.

Honorable Guests

All of the guest speakers I got to experience in class in this semester I think are great and talented people but 2 were major impactors for me specifically. First was Morgan Cooper, He is a Director for this remake of bel-air but in modern times. I think it was cool to meet an actual famous guy and have him show us that he was just like us, and maybe that the class can be just like him in the future. Another guest speaker was Ryann Burnett, who is keen in post producing and editing. Since I am very interested in post production, I was very interested how a superior worked and operates. Now from these two individual I think that Morgan Cooper gave me the confidence to continue working on my film studies and pursue film. Ryann Burnett showed me how to properly organize and edit efficiently, which can improve working times so I can complete projects faster.

The All American High School Film Festival

The AAHSFF was a great chance to go see NYC and learn about film. We went to a lot of crazy and cool locations around NYC and overall the experience was great! But I think that I can use the college interactions in the future and maybe get accepted into one of the good colleges for film. I think this also improved my work by seeing other peoples work, seeing the winners, and how they made the film.

Future Feature Film

A feature film that is in the works that I am a part of is called "Sub Rosa". Currently my roles for the film is editor, colorist, and script editor. While most of the work will take place after the filming of Sub Rosa, I think I can still can be efficient during pre-production and production. During pre-production I would help work on the script and make sure everything make sense within the script. During production I can show up to film days and maybe give some tips on how to make editing a tad easier on my part. Finally in post production, I would organize and communicate with my fellow editors to try and evenly give out work and get the film finished in the best, most efficient, and most convenient.

24 Hour Film Fest

I had an opportunity to precipitate in a 24 hour film fest. Basically it means we have 24 hours to create a film based off some basic requirements. Overall the film I helped create was really good for 24 hours and I was really proud of it. It helped me on how to work under pressure with the small time frame and how to organize time. I think overall the film fest positively impacted my skill in film.

Overall

I think this semester really improved my skill in film and more specifically, editing. I really did enjoy the trip to NYC due to it being educational but also really fun. I would personally change how we filmed the camera in previous projects so that the shots were focused and white balanced. I think that editing is a thing I want to do in the future and seeing how much I improved, I believe it is a possible future. A goal for next semester is to improve camera work, work efficiency, and editing. I also want to thank Mrs. Smith for being a great teacher, she has helped the class is such a positive way, so thank you.

Semester 2 of Graphic Design

Low-poly Portrait

The project was to create a low-poly version of yourself or pet by using the pen tool in illustrator. The project took a couple of weeks to complete, most of it making the triangles within the subject. One major challenge was being patient with the entire process. I learned how to use the pen tool and how to use a grid to my advantage. A suggestion I got from some friends was that I should make two adjacent shapes, not the same color. Nothing much changed to the project compared to my original idea, it was just the wait of completion. I think it turned out very well in the end.

Special Event Advertisements

The project was to create advertisements for a fake event about a topic researched, for me that topic was pop art. The project took about 2 months to get all advertisements done, and research. Some challenges were just thinking of ideas during the project, because pop art has a particular style to it so it is hard to come up with original ideas. I worked on my Indesign and Illustrator skills while working on the project and the compatibility between the two. I didn't get much feedback for my work because most people thought it was alright and didn't have any other ideas on what to do. My ideas on the postcard changed a lot because I couldn't think of an original idea that stuck. The poster is my favorite but i'm not sure about the other advertisements.

Logo Designing

The project was to sketch out logo ideas and create them in illustrator, then pick out our favorite color design of our best logo and create mockups of the logo. The project took about 3 weeks to sketch and then finish the mockups in the end. Some challenges were thinking of color ideas for the logos and trying to fully create the logo in illustrator. I also got to work on my illustrator skills while working on the logos and using the pen tool to create shapes. I didn't receive much feedback except for when picking the best logo out of my selection and I think it worked out well. My original color ideas completely changed on the some of the logos but in a good way. I think my logos all turned out really good but especially the final logo.

Class Time

After finishing a project I tried to help out my neighbor with his project to help him finish but other than that I also worked on my sketching skills on my own. I have illustrator at home so I usually draw in my free time so I get some experience off of that. I do help my friends out in the class by giving them suggestions to their projects to help them finish. I also work on my own youtube videos outside of class with premiere but that really isn't "graphic design-y".

My Strengths

My strengths in eComm is being an independent hard working when it comes to projects. I also enjoy video editing which might be because of me liking to be independent. I try to help out friends with their own projects by giving them tips or staying after school to help them finish their project.

My Weaknesses

Personally I think I can be very unoriginal with ideas or projects. I can be very shy and not want to talk to people during class or ask for advice which can overall effect my projects outcome. I also don't spend my extra time in class working on things that could make me better.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed the projects and my teacher Mrs. Beaudoin, she was really kind and helpful throughout the year when it came to critiques. There isn't much I would change, I always looked forward to this class throughout the day. I would just like to improve throughout the year next year to become better, there really ain't much to it, just become better overall. I enjoyed this overall and I had fun, I hope eComm next year will be the same.

Movie Trailer

Pre-Production

To start our project which was a movie trailer we needed to find a video to replicate. We found a movie called "The Breakfast Club" but a bunch of people in our class were doing it so we decided not to. We found another movie called "Stand and Deliver" which we decided to work with. I started with story boarding while my teammates found actors and such. After storyboarding was done we had to figure out who was available at what times and which scenes that we were going to do at school.

Production

During production my group was pretty busy so we didn't have many days after school we could film, eventually we found some days and got the basic shots done. The main issue wasn't finding main actors but finding background actors. We eventually got everything done with minor issues except that some scenes were impossible to replicate with our surroundings. I improvised in editing with certain scenes. The video turned out pretty well with no complications with editing.

Conclusion

While working on the video the only complication I had was finding background actors. Other than that I learned how to use a dolly for shots and practiced with premiere. But overall I did enjoy the project and the journey to complete it.

Vector Portrait

Pre-Production

I forgot to get a picture for a vector portrait project in graphic design and so I looked through my phone to see if there was any selfies I had taken, there was only one. This majestic piece of work was gonna be my low-poly vector portrait for graphic design. I got prepped by using a filter in photoshop to bring out more of the color in the picture and to simplify the piece and use less colors to make low poly work better.

Production

For production I started by making a grid to snap my curser to so that making triangles would be easier to create. I started with making triangles for the headset then going down to the face and then glasses and finally the hoodie, all of these pieces were all on separated layers. I used different stroke colors to tell the different layers apart. After all the triangles were finished I started working on coloring them in. It was simple at first, select the triangle and use the eyedropper tool to get the color in the center of the triangle, but I wanted to have the triangles next to each other to have separate colors so you could see all the triangles in their glory, it was difficult but it worked out in the end but the shapes really made it pop out.

Final Product

I am happy with the final product but if I were to change one thing it would to have more triangles so that the end product would be more detailed and look better in the end.

Music Video

Assignment

For my Video Production class an assignment was assigned to make a music video. You had to recreate the scenes and overall look of the original. So finding a song that was school appropriate and a song you enjoyed so when editing it, it wasn't utter pain, was a good idea.

Production

My group consisting of Me, Alexis, and Andrew went to search for a funny video to film so we wouldn't be bored working on it and had some motivation for a very entertaining piece. We went through a couple of songs but the song EVERYONE agreed with was Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. It seemed pretty fun at first and it looked achievable. I had to draw out every camera angle and scene change, it wasn't fun but it got done. When the actors, Alexis, and Andrew went out to record (over a two day period) I couldn't go due to my work making me come in. Once they finished filming I had to edit the video with a bunch of random clips that didn't even have the right voice lines or rhythm to the original. So basically I was looking blindly through a bunch of videos with no good result just to attempt with some clip that looked alright. I manage to finish the video and the VERY end of the video shows how I feel about it.

Post Production

One the video finished uploading was okay. It was well received by my friends and everyone usually enjoyed the video. Most of them said it was okay and the clips don't really line up well with the voices. So if I had to change something it would probably be putting the video in the BACKGROUND while the person SINGS the SONG. Like am I weird for thinking that its stupid that they didn't put the song in the background while they sung the song so they matched it extremely well? Anyways, it went alright I guess, I posted it on my Youtube so I earn that Youtube $$$.

Typography

Pre-production

For a project in graphic design we needed to create graphics using quotes and using our newly learned typography skills to pick out fonts for those quotes. I wanted to have my own quotes so I spent a couple of days coming up with 10 quotes that I liked. I picked out 4 quotes to use for black and white, they were pretty simple and graphics could be simple as well. I used a common cursive font for all of them, then had a simple font that went with a word in the quote.

Production

I got a bit better and faster at using illustrator after this project will work well in the future. I wanted the graphic to go with the quote or go with the word that pops out the most. Graphics were simples and not complicated so people can understand and recognize them immediately. Color looked better than black in white for 3 of the 4 I created. The 4th one really relied on the 2 colors for a cool contrast look, but overall I preferred colored.

Final Product

I think the quotes turned out pretty good and as of now there isn't anything I want to change about them. They look great and get the point across. I also prefer the colored ones except for the broken glass one, it looks better in b/w.

Preformace Review

Project Review

The Project was to create an infographic about any topic. It took about 3 to 4 weeks to complete the entire project. Challenges were the main central object in the middle of the infographic because I lost some info for the infographic so I had to improvise. I learned how to create objects and how to organize them. Some feedback I was given was to make bites out of the text boxes on the infographic and I thought it looked nice. I made a bunch of changes, ranging from the central object, the fact i'm using 3 side facts rather than 4, and even the graphics design themselves. I think it turned out very well in the end and i'm happy with the result.

The project was to follow this guide on how to make shapes in adobe illustrator. It look 3 to 4 days to complete. Challenges were figuring out controls and strategies on how to create objects in illustrator. I learned how to create simple objects in illustrator and it really helped me out with my infographic project. Feedback I was given was to use different colors for some of the graphics and I think it turned out very well. I didn't make any major changes to my original plan so I think it went well. I think the final project went well.

The project was to take a photo of someone in class and make it look like pop art. The project took about 3 to 4 days to complete. Challenges were the coloring and the cropping of some of the stuff within the pop art and making it look good. I learned how to crop and use filters to my advantage when making an illustrator project. Some feedback I got was to use line around the main objects of the project and to make it pop out more. Some changes I made was to have some of the background of the real photo in the background in the shapes of the pop art, which in my opinion looks pretty good. I think this project was a success but it isn't my best.

Time Efficiency

I stayed productive in class after finishing a project by drawing my own style of characters in illustrator and practicing my own graphic abilities on the computer. I spent some time out of class using my own adobe illustrator software to practice and learn some tools in illustrator.

My Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths I have in graphic design is computer experience and Adobe experience. Ive been on a computer for over half my life so i've learned some strategies. I also have an Adobe account with Adobe premiere, photoshop, and illustrator, so I can practice using those programs outside of class. Weaknesses I have are not staying on task, sometimes I can get distracted and talk to some of my friends and will not want to do the current project.

Final Words

I loved the final infographic project at the end of the semester and the freedom we had with it. I wouldn't do much differently I think everything went pretty well in the end. Illustrator is a great tool you can use in many departments and jobs in the future. One goal I have is to continuously improve on my illustrator skills over the time I experience it. I had a great time this semester and will probably have a better time next semester.

Video Interview

Project

The first project for interviewing in video was to tell a story of a person within your class and use proper techniques. I was assigned to Asya Leavitt so I had to ask her some questions to get some story ideas for the interview.

Ideas

After asking a bunch of questions to Asya I ended up coming up with a couple of ideas for the interview. She liked photography, photo journalism, and traveling, which kinda all ties into each other. But once I figured that out I needed to get enough questions so the interview wouldn't be to short.

Problems

One big problem Asya and I had on the interviews were the 3 days we lost progress. One day I was gone and two other days we had to reshoot an interview. When editing the video I realized that I didn't shoot enough b roll. One thing I did learn from this experience is to shoot plenty of b roll, just drown your SD card with b roll.

Finished Product

Im happy with the finished product with what I had. Im glad we had an extra two days to edit our projects a bit longer which made my piece a lot better in the end. B roll was the only problem I had with making the video and I enjoyed making most of it. Hopefully this experience makes my future projects better.

Watercolor Transfer

Digital beginning

To start off the watercolor transfer I need to have something to eventually transfer. I used my pop art project and made a black and white version for a second print. After that I printed it out and stored it for later.

Watercolor

Once I had something to print I got prepared to make some water color sheets. Using classic water color tools I tried to paint one to look like rainbow blocks for the black and white piece. For the colored piece I made the paper a blue and purple gradient to match the pop art. After that I added red dots to spice it up a bit.

Mod podge

Once the watercolor was finished I added the mod podge to the cut out pop art pieces and added it to the water color and used a squeegee to get the extra out of the bottom. I did this process for both pieces and set them out to dry.

Poly acrylic

Once the transfer print was completed I got some water to rub off the paper left after the print with some water. This took a couple of attempts to get the majority of the paper off but it ended off working well. Once that was all done poly acrylic was added to the prints to get the tiny bits of paper off to finish the piece.

Reflection

The printing process went pretty well in the end. I did pretty good up to the  rubbing part. I used too much water which made the water color bleed a bit which made the outer edge look a bit rough. Other than that i'm happy with the ending prints and good with the experience

Printing Processes

Relief Printing Process

The printing process starts with a inked piece of wood prepared to be printed to a piece of paper. When a thin sheet of paper is pressed down against the wood with a baren. The grain of the wood affect the black areas of the print. This effect can be an advantage to an artist. Tools used are similar to a wood carver. This type of printing is like a flat consistent black board that you carve away to make white space to create a image with the depth of the piece itself. Imagine it being like a reverse drawing. This type of printing is the easiest to use and easiest to access, which is good for learning the basics of printing.
1) a wood block is toned with a black film ink
2) a carbon paper transfer can take place to transfer the paper
3) cut away the white areas with a wood carving tool
4) once the block of wood is ready ink is rolled over the block
5) the block is pressed and transferring ink to paper

Intaglio Printing Process

Intaglio is a print making process where the image is below the flat surface of your printing plate. This printing process is the process of getting a sheet of metal and making scratches into the metal which can hold ink. These scratches are moving the metal away from the area making a bump that can hold ink once you transfer the ink to the plate. These bumps make the ink a fuzzy line once printed. These bumps can also be texture for the piece later. Later in the process where we apply ground to the plate it makes the plate completely black. Unlike Relief where we add depth to the plate, we just remove the black sheet, this process also isn't like the scratching process. The copper showing through will be what the piece is in the end. After inking the plate and removing any residue from the top areas of the plate, the plate is pressed in the same way the Relief process is pressed.

1) prepare a plate for scratching or modification
2) scratch out the print on the plate
3) steel face the plate to make the plate stronger and more durable
4) prepare plate for etching
5) apply ground to the plate
6) smoke the plate
7) etch the plate
8) wipe plate with ink to force into into deep crevices of the plate

Lithography Printing Process

This process is about water and grease resisting each other. The stone is treated and etch is added into the stone. The tools to use are waxy like tools that can resist water, so the harder the material the darker the print will be. Most of the process is adding gum, lithotine and other materials to the stone to make ink stick to it.

1) stone is prepared with drawing
2) gum is added to stone to draw out white areas
3) soap is added stone which fades the drawing
4) wash surface and ink stone
5) prepare to press stone to force ink into stone
6) damp paper and press again to get complete print

Reflection

The process id attempt would probably be the Intaglio process because i'm most familiar with the process and I feel like would work best for me. The simplicity of the process itself make me feel like I could accomplish it. I also think the demographic of the type of printing would work for me. The plate system I also think would be easier and more enjoyable to work with. These old printing processes probably influenced some artist to go more deeper when it comes to printing, thanks to the modern age with new tools and machinery. But I think it can help artists when they need a type of design choice. Like for example a retro or a nostalgia feel for some people.

Panorama Multi-Exposure

Personal Narrative

Walking into the Renaissance festival I instantly felt immersed into the culture of the festival. It was my first time so I was anxious but after walking into the front gates the smell of the turkey legs and the root beer floats everyone was carrying around went into my nostrils. The commotion coming from everyone was distracting. I looked around seeing how large the festival was. It was huge! After leaving the main area and stepping onto the soft soil I  followed the path. I smelt pure disgust, looking onto the ground was balls of pure horse droppings. After looking at that I continued onto the path.

My first stop was this magic show gag. Now if it was really the medieval ages and he claimed to be magical, he'd be hung for bein' a witch. But this isn't really the medieval times. The magic show was entertaining to say the least, but the feeling of the hard dry wood made it very uncomfortable. The magician had a little wooden magic wand, and had a white beard which fit the look of a wizard. Once that show was over I met up with some of my greatest buds, Alexis and Jeremiah, we went off to the sword fighting tournament and Jeremiah and I decided to join. The rules were simple, don't get hit, while she was explaining the rules I was just looking at this skeleton statue thing above the arena. It fit the barbarian look. When I was up into the ring I noticed that you couldn't leave the roped circle indicating the arena, and my opponent was a boy with a spear. When the woman started the match I was anxious, the soil felt like ice as I slid around trying to dodge his attacks, but it didn't work out in the end. I walked out of that arena empty handed.

After that loss Jeremiah, Alexis, and I went on down to a performance where a man was doing tricks and making puns, the performance was a blast but midway I got a call saying that everyone was ready to leave, so I had to pack my bags and track my way back to the entrance. Once there we went through the exit and leaving the horse dropping smell behind. Walking onto dusty rocks made my shoes a bit dusty but once I got home I felt happy to experience the Renaissance festival.

Reflection

The panorama works well with the story by showing key points of the story within the picture itself. The picture goes in order (kinda) of the events that happen within the story. The project worked out pretty well in the end. The theme of The Renaissance Festival works pretty well due to the pictures within the project are actually from Ren Fest. The only part that i'm not happy about is the very right side not blending in very well, but I tried my best.

Pop Art

First Idea

I didn't really have an idea for my project I knew what I wanted but didn't plan before I started. I first cropped her out of the original image, made her black and white, then finally added color back. After that I added cool shapes and lines to make it seem more like a pop art design.

Color scheme

The color scheme I chose is like a purple to blue wave of color. The color goes with her clothing which is a blue outfit. The block colors were colors close to the original color palette.

Inspiration

I didn't have much of an inspiration, I kinda just winged it. The most inspiration I got was from Mrs. Scotts pop art, what I got inspiration was from the lines around the boxes, which I used for the subject and the blocks in the picture.

Techniques

To make the subject seem like there was no color taken out of her I got the eye dropper tool and took color from the original subject and colored it back in. Using a layer mask also made only the environment viewable through the blocks. To create the rain effect I got the brush tool and changed the brush to have this scratchy/ rain look effect.

Photoshop Challenge

Idea

Some Ideas I had in mind were the original landscape idea, where the man had a forest on his head and branches on his shirt. Another idea I had was a city, but I thought it would be to hard and complicated so I went with the more simpler option.

Process

I started with the hair because I already had a idea in mind on how to do it. First thing was just using the quick selection tool to select the hair and such. The shirt was a bit harder to do, with the folds and creases of the shirt itself was hard to show in the end.

Blending Mode, Masks & Adjustment Layers

I didn't use many blending modes except for a drop shadow for the hair to make it pop out more and to make it seem more 3D rather than a 2D object. I used a lot of masks for this project, I used three in total, one for cutting the hair, cutting the image for the hair, and cutting the shirt. Adjustments layers I used moderately, brightening of the roots, brightening of the picture itself, and hue/saturation for the picture too.

Finished Product

The finished product turn very similarly to my vision, Not exactly though. The hair i'm not entirely happy with. The hair isn't as smooth looking and I wanted but it works for what it is. If I were to improve something it would be the hair look itself. But I ending up being very happy with the shirt and roots look.

Photoshop Video Lessons 1

The Video Lessons

Being assigned to watch video lessons on how photoshop worked and how the tools worked seemed, pretty boring at first. Just following a video and copying what he does. But it turned out to be pretty useful. They showed some stuff more in-depth than usual but I was fine with that.

After Watching the Videos

After watching the videos I learned a lot of stuff I never knew about photoshop. The patch tool being an easy to use tool to fix small mistakes but doesn't have a perfect outcome, usually. Clone stamp tool, took a patch of the picture and copied it to the place you pasted it, can look good with the right spot. Spot healing brush and healing brush tools are very similar but spot healing brush has you choose the spot you copy from similar to the clone stamp tool. The videos didn't seem difficult, you just copied what the guy did on the video and called it good.

What I Could Use in the Future

The spot healing brush or the clone stamp tool are very useful tools in the photoshop arsenal. Ive used photoshop before at home and in e9 and the most useful tools i've found are the lasso tools, you can select and deselect any part of the image and copy it or cut it or just add it to another layer. But in the end the video were still very helpful to get used to the software.

Conclusion

The videos were very helpful to get used to the program and the tools that we can use in future projects. The videos weren't that hard but the last lesson was very long and slow but that lesson was bigger than the rest.
